Monique Dekker
Regional Director, The Hague

Getting to know Monique, her background, her business now, how she got to know and became involved with Global Woman, and then the Regional Director. Why she loves it and her own vision and personal perspective for growing The Hague City Club in The Netherlandsas part of the Global Woman Clubcommunity and connecting globally.

Monique Dekker is a Dutch lady of Surinamese origin living in the Netherlands. An International speaker, coach, trainer and mentor with a passion for high heels, and the founder of ‘Total Presence Academy ‘ and‘Yourself in Leadership’.  Monique believes that it is all about taking charge and getting to know who you are on a deeper level, so that you can lead yourself, and others, from a higher level of awareness and achieve your highest possible potential.

“After a career of more than 20 years as a financial controller and manager in various companies, my world changed in one fell swoop. On November 13, 2012, three weeks after I had buried my mom, I woke up half-paralyzed in the morning. A few hours later the diagnosis was: a brain hemorrhage. My career was over and also my old life as I knew it. During my rehabilitation of one and a half years, I realised that my greatest passion and drive is empowering and working with people, supporting them in achieving their highest possible potential and creating the life they desire. Sometimes it starts with believing in them even before they do.

It was in this phase of my life that I discovered that my true purpose was staring right at me. But I was so busy looking down the road that I could not see what was in front of me, or rather, what was inside of me. Then one day it hit me; I had been in effect practicing my mission for over 20 years, yet not in the right environment and therefore not aware of it.I realised that I was not living up to my fullest possible potential at that moment. So after recovering I took charge and decided to start my own business.

I believe that everyone needs the right people and the right environment, willing to give them the chance to become and live the wonderful and talented being they are.I do believe that this is my calling. That is why I do not believe in self-made men, or women. You do it yourself, but never alone. We always need someone, even if it was to buy our product of service. This is the reason why I love Global Woman so much and feel at home in this great and warm community. At the end of January 2018, I visited the Global Woman Breakfast Club in Amsterdam for the first time. It was love at first sight. At Global Woman we empower and support each other. It is a platform where we-encourage each other to be who we are, to shine and make our voices be heard. We are open to learn from, and build each other up. By doing so, together we make the world a nicer place, piece by piece, woman by woman.

I see this as a part of practicing (self-)leadership; becoming successful by sharing what others need and getting what you need to growtogether. The one thing that makes us women vulnerable is our conviction that everything and everyone is more important than ourselves. This leads us to hide our own talents and worth, while putting others first and encouraging them to shine. There is nothing wrong with that. But how about becoming our own best version and making a much bigger impact? Wandering how to do that? Global Woman is here to support you.

This is what Global Woman has brought me a lot in less than eight months. I have listed just a few highlights.

  • My dream to become an international speaker was supported by Giovanni Vega, the director of Global Woman Netherlands. I am thankful that she gave me the opportunity to have my first international speaking engagement in Vienna.
  • I had the opportunity to be a speaker in New York at the Global Woman Summit 2018 where I had the great privilege to receive the Global Woman Leadership Award 2018. It was also a wonderful an exciting experience to meet and speak with Les Brown, as he was one of the keynote speakers at the summit.
  • My online visibility has more than doubled which partly is the result of interviews in different Global Woman online magazines.
  • I am the co-author of the Global Woman Club Amsterdam book-project.
  • At the moment I am writing this, I am working on my own book under mentorship of Mirela Sula. The plan is to launch it by Spring 2019.
  • And last but not least, I have taken on the great challenge to be the regional director of the Global Woman City Club The Hague, the second club in the Netherlands.

I believe that every woman reading this is a leader in her own phase. Just allow yourself to be in the right environment, surrounded by the right people to lift your(self)leadership to a higher level. And believe me when I say: ‘Global Woman’ is the place to be!

May we lead ourselves in a way that others want to follow. May we shine and inspire others to do the same.
